Kut

Description

The Kut barrage is located within the city of Kut, Wasit Governorate, across Tigris River. It is one of the main structures within Tigris river Basin, controlling the Tigris water levels necessary to divert water into Gharraf River, Dujaila main canals and several other canals ( Mazzak, Hussaiyniya, and Hawr) located on the upstream right bank of Tigris river. The Barrage , construction was completed in 1939, heightening and rehabilitation of the structures and gates works where implemented and completed in 1967.

Needs

a qualified consultants must be employed to prepare the required monitoring instrumentation and Piezometers to be installed at each structure, and preparation of New Operation and Maintenance Manual because all documents related to the project are lost. A new bathymetry survey is required for the river reaches upstream and downstream the barrage and other structures to evaluate the sediment accumulation within the upstream reach and the scour if any within the downstream reach, this will define the required dredging, cleaning and/ or protection works.
