Description
The barrage is located upstream the town of Qalaat Salih, 45 km south of Amarra City in, Missan Governorate, across Tigris River it is one of the main structures of Amara Irrigation Project, controlling the Tigris water levels for gravity irrigation.The Barrage Is a concrete Structure it includes 3 electrically operated radial steel gates each 8 m wide, capable to pass a maximum discharge of 150 m3/se at upstream water level of 6.50 masl, A Navigation Lock is provided, along with the Fish ladder which is located between the barrage and the navigation lock.The barrage construction was completed in 1978 and commissioned at the end of 1978
Needs
a qualified consultants must be employed to prepare the required monitoring instrumentation and Piezometers to be installed at each structure, and preparation of New Operation and Maintenance Manual. The Structure needs some repair works after a detailed evaluation for the requirements.A new bathymetry survey is required for the river reaches upstream and downstream the barrage to evaluate the sediment accumulation within both reaches and defining the required dredging, cleaning and/ or protection works.
Objective
The Barrage was constructed to complete Ammara Area Water Control and for Distribution of Irrigation water by Gravity the barrage helped in facilitating the fish immigration as well as the river navigation via its navigation lock
